Where Do Tween Girls Belong?

By Colleen Elliott, Publisher, Macaroni KID Eugene June 15, 2026

Let's be honest: finding activities for younger kids can be easy.

Storytime at the library? Check.

A quick trip to the park? Check.

A playdate with friends? Check.

But what about those awkward tween years? When our kids aren't quite teens yet, but they're not our little kids anymore. Where do they go? Where do they find connection, support, and a place to simply be themselves?

Ophelia's Place

Empowered girls build confidence, create meaningful friendships, and discover their unique strengths at Ophelia's Place.

Many parents begin searching for those spaces, especially for their tween daughters.

Now, I'm not saying raising boys isn't hard, because it absolutely is. But speaking from experience—even if it was many years ago—being a tween girl can be tough. The hormones, the acne, the friendship drama, the self-doubt, and, of course, the classic "Mom, you just don't get it!"

(As a 37-year-old mom, I can confidently say my mom did, in fact, get it. Mom, if you’re reading this, you were right, I probably should’ve listened, but here we are.)

That's where Ophelia's Place comes in.

Ophelia's Place provides a welcoming and supportive environment where girl-identified youth ages 10–18 can connect, grow, and navigate life's challenges together. The organization offers after-school programs, no-school day activities, therapy services, school partnerships, workshops, and more.

“Because let's be honest again—we all could have used a few more supportive adults in our corner when we were growing up.”

One area where that support can make a huge difference is helping girls navigate friendships, conflict, and bullying. Most of us have experienced being left out, teased, or hurt by others at some point. And if we're being really honest, many of us have probably made mistakes and hurt someone else's feelings too. Learning how to navigate those experiences doesn't have to happen alone.

Summer can be an especially challenging time for tweens, with less structure, fewer opportunities to connect with friends, and more hours to fill each day.
